Often times, site challenges provide yet to be discovered opportunities for unique landscape spaces. Such was the case for an unsightly corner of this yard with ragged exposed ledge leading to an elevated wooded area. By working with the existing elevations and incorporating natural stones and antique granite steps we were able to transform the space into an elevated sitting area and children’s play space. With the overhead canopy of a stately oak tree the shady spot provides a perfect play space during the day and at night the elevated stone terrace with fire bowl provides an opportunity for s’mores and tall tales around the campfire. Planted among the stones are a variety of native flowering shrubs such as winterberry, viburnum, ferns, perennials and groundcovers which over time will blanket the hillside and create textural and color interest throughout the year.
